The Hidden Watermelon

St. Mark's Garden Ladies

Updated: Feb 25, 2020

One hot summer day, a Garden Lady was in the garden when a man from the downtown neighborhood stopped by. "Have you got any watermelons today?", he asked? Well there were none on the vine but I had just picked the last one and put it in the shed.

I replied, "I just picked the last one on the vine and you may have it." When I brought it out and presented it to him he said, "Oh, I can't take it with me. I have to go to the courthouse first." I told him I would save it for him.

Looking around after he left I pondered where I could put it so he could access it after our gate was locked. Aha - I spied the palm tree on the outside of our fence and wedged it between the palm tree trunk and the fence where he could find it, but it would be hidden from other pedestrians.

Later that afternoon the other Garden Lady called me laughing and said, "Why is there a watermelon in a palm tree?" I explained the situation and silently prayed that the Lord would help the correct person find it.

Next morning, the watermelon was gone. I suppose God made sure it was found by the rightful owner. Open hands - that's what we are to have and God will take care of the rest.
